چکیده
The method of positive commutators, developed for zero temperature problems over the last twenty years, has been an essential tool in the spectral analysis of Hamiltonians in quantum mechanics. We extend this method to positive temperatures, i.e. to non-equilibrium quantum statistical mechanics. We use the positive commutator technique to give an alternative proof of a fundamental property of a certain class of large quantum systems, called Return to Equilibrium. This property says that equilibrium states are (asymptotically) stable: if a system is slightly perturbed from its equilibrium state, then it converges back to that equilibrium state as time goes to infinity.

In this note we describe some results concerning non-relativistic quantum systems at positive temperature and density confined to macroscopically large regions, Λ, of physical space R which are under the influence of some local, time-dependent external forces. We are interested in asymptotic properties of such systems, as Λ increases to all of R. It might thus appear natural Submitted for publi...

The property of “return to equilibrium” is established for a class of quantum-mechanical models describing interactions of a (toy) atom with black-body radiation, or of a spin with a heat bath of scalar bosons, under the assumption that the interaction strength is sufficiently weak. For models describing the first class of systems, our upper bound on the interaction strength is independent of t...

We consider a model of a leaky quantum wire with the Hamiltonian −∆ − αδ(x − Γ) in L 2 (R 2), where Γ is a compact deformation of a straight line. The existence of wave operators is proven and the S-matrix is found for the negative part of the spectrum. Moreover, we conjecture that the scattering at negative energies becomes asymptot-ically purely one-dimensional, being determined by the local ...

Complex functions χ(m) where m belongs to a Galois field GF (p ℓ), are considered. Fourier transforms , displacements in the GF (p ℓ) × GF (p ℓ) phase space and symplectic Sp(2, GF (p ℓ)) transforms of these functions are studied. It is shown that the formalism inherits many features from the theory of Galois fields. For example, Frobenius transformations are defined which leave fixed all funct...

We describe a locally trivial quantum principal U (1)-bundle over the quantum space S 2 pq which is a noncommutative analogue of the usual Hopf bundle. We also provide results concerning the structure of its total space algebra (irreducible *-representations and topological K-groups) and its Galois aspects (Galois property, existence of a strong connection, non-cleftness).
